And You Thought I Forgot About Like Woah!?

Like Whoa!

Well.. I kinda did. I haven’t posted about them in forever, nor I have received any updates from
them in quite some time. They’re one of my favorite lesser-known producers and I don’t think there’s a remix of original piece of there’s that I haven’t enjoyed.

Backtracking… Trixie and were discussing the awesomeness that is The Presets this morning, her saying they were both a prog house band in disguise and that the Miami Horror remix of “Talk Like That” -while good- is a let down if you’re expecting the original (and I agree with her) and me saying, well, “ZOMG” a lot, honestly. But it made me go investigate some of my other favorite Australian bands and that’s when I though of Like Woah!

There’s nothing on their myspace to indicate it.. but they silently dropped 3 remixes last month and they are all up to quality I’ve come to love and respect from them. Circle.Square.Triangle had the exclusive, so props to them for being cooler than me.

The Other Night Fred Falke Saved My Life

Fred Falk - Live @ Tribeca Grand NYC

I meant to put this out on Sunday, and then my title would have been more “Last Night blah blah blah” but I’m lazy and swamped with work and blah blah blah, so oh well.

Saturday night played host to Hacks his new friend Toba taking a trip to Tribeca Grand and dancing till the lights came on while one bearded deejay/bass player named Fred Falke rocked the crowd. But wait, I should tell this story properly. See it all started with this:

Toba: “Hey, let’s hang out”
Hacks: “Ok, I’m going to see Fred Falke tonight, wanna go”
Toba: “Who’s that?”
Hacks: “This really good deejay/producer”
Toba: “Ok”

And there we have it! Thus began a night of epic proportions sprouting from those elegant and powerful words. Well, it didn’t quite begin then..

We had to traverse our way to the Tribeca Grand first, spend an (even-for-manhattan) excessive amount on a couple drinks while one solid opener (David P) and one not so solid opener (the other guy) got the crowd warmed up to the night.

Then comes Fred Falke, looking all in the world like he just finished watching a football game in the corner pub, ready to rock out the crowd.

I danced. From start to finish. Until the lights came on and my sweat drenched body was protesting (Seriously kids, I was so sweaty my shirt was dripping water on the floor). He opened with a live bass performance, proceeded to destroy things with a 3 hour, trigger finger controlled Ableton set, and then winded the night down with another live bass performance before the lights finally came on and everyone scurried like rats to GTFO.

It was the best night of dancing I’ve had in a long long time. In fact, I danced so hard, I couldn’t even stop to talk to the cute girl with the red headband next to me. Ah well.

And now, here’s the mega post. Because I doubt half of you even read the above anyway:

I distinctly recall “Sanctuary” from Saturday.. it totally got my 5th wind kicked in and desrves to be the first track you listen to.

Buffet Libre Presents: Rewind Part 1

Buffet Libre Presents: Rewind Part 1

The crew over at Buffet Libre have been assembling this collection for quite some time now and they just announced it is finally complete. Sixty quality covers/remixes of your favorite (or obscure) 80s tracks all available for free in one nicely wrapped package. So what does that mean? Well it means that good ol’ hacks here has been listening all 60 tracks on repeat trying to pick out my favorites. I’ve tried to stick to some that aren’t littering hype… but no guarantees.

Dragonette takes the ZZ top sound and destroys it with an almost monotone slathering take on the rocking original. Something about this just screams sexy to me. And yes I’m a dude talking about girls singing about sharp dressed man and just referred to that as “sexy”.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Another dance floor stormer, Mr Miyagi tears it up. They did an awesome klaxons remix back int he day, and also put out a really solid mix that had “lasers” in the title (so you know it had to be awesome)

Kinda proggy, kinda trancey, but overall totally solid.

Much thanks to the Buffet Libre Crew! I’ll provide a full track list below the cut.

The Pirate Bay Starts its Summer Tour 2008

pirate-bay-bureau-on-tour.jpg

Being the Anti-RIAA kids that we are, we figured that hopefully some of you would enjoy this as much as we did:

Today, the Pirate Bay and the Bureau of Piracy start their journey throughout Europe, that will reach its climax at the art festival Manifesta by the end of next week in Bolzano, Italy. The good news is that if you’d like to join them en route, everyone is welcome.

The pirates will be touring in an old bus they bought and prepared for their trip road trip through Europe. After several days of preparation in Stockholm, the bus stops tonight, July 10th, in Malmö, where the Pirate Bay and the Bureau of Piracy have declared “mixtape amnesty”.

They invite everyone who’s ever stared at the torrent clients’ speed graph, cursed Kazaa, carried a hard drive to a friend or made a copy of their mother’s cookie recipe to join them, as long as you bring drinks, your mixtapes and at least two peers.

The bus will then move on this Friday and reach its second stop, Berlin, the next day. After Berlin, the Pirate Bay and the Bureau of Piracy will set course to their final destination, Bolzano, where they will be participating in the Manifesta7 art event….

Xinobi + Moulinex + Disco Texas = Love

Disco Texas

Both Xinobi and Moulinex have been personal favorites for quite some time now. I’ve rocked out tracks by both of them on more than five occasions and they just don’t seem to get old. Well there’s good news for us (or for me; screw you guys if you don’t like ‘em) since they finally launched their label this weekend: Disco Texas

The first release from it is Xinobi’s “Day Off” and its a driving disco-infused french house rumble the walls and tear down the house track. Its available via Beatport and is totally worth the couple of dollars. Honestly kids? I went out and purchased because that’s just how awesome they are. I’ll be posting 128s that that are floating around for listening purposes, but you should really do your self the favor and get the 320s.

The Black Ghosts / Sunny Day Sets Fire

Its a double release party for I AM SOUND! Both The Black Ghosts and Sunny Day Sets Fire enjoy in store releases today.

Sta Sta and More Sta

Sta!

So I’ve got a deejay crush on Sta. He throws down great sets, his remixes consistently find their way into my deejay sets, and I danced my ass off the one chance I got to see him live. So when I get a handy update that he’s got a remix of what somehow has become a hugely popular track for top40 hipster club kids: I make love in this blog.

Old Money Crew

Old Money Crew - Konrad

These kids have been sending my some qualities tunes for a while, and its about time they got some Resonator Luvin. They’ve been dropping perfect club tracks: mixing hard nasty beats with chopped and screwed vocals riffs smattered with of top-notch production and mastering; they’re the kinda of tracks you throw when you want the kids to dance it up a notch.

Most recently comes this slick little Chromeo remix. Its actually not a club banger (yeah yeah, hype shit up hacks and then toss down something different) but its a quality track that’s perfect for some early night dance floor shaking.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Chromeo - “Momma’s Boy (Konrad Remix)”

Konrad’s got some original work as well that falls more into that “rock-teh-fuck-out” vibe as well. Check ‘em out:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Konrad - “Sweet Dreams”

I rather enjoyed “Sweet Dreams”, there’s enough hint of the original to get those hipster who never liked it in the first place (but pretended they’ve always loved it) excited, but still keeps it fresh enough that its not just another re-hash.

And to toss in some more to keep your morning rolling.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Konrad - “Juanita Cash Hawkins”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

M.I.A. - “U.R.A.Q.T. (Konrad Remix)”

So what are you waiting for? Get Old Money, check it out, say hi and give some love back. And be sure to expect more from OMC in the future.
